"Hand in Hand, Keeping Hill County Healthy"

Consortium

In 2003 the Hill County Health Department (HCHD) spearheaded an effort to coordinate medical and social services offered in the Hill County area.  Organizations, businesses, and individuals immediately saw the merit of HCHD’s initiative and soon formed the Hill County Health Consortium.

The Consortium members list includes medical facilities and practitioners, social services organizations, business people, financial institutions, tribal members, Hutterite colony members, educational facilities and educators, law practitioners, political entities, youth and elderly organizations, religious organizations, law enforcement, and concerned community members.

The intent of the Consortium is to identify health/health-related needs in the area and how best to address these needs in a partnership effort.  Consortium members plan and implement strategies and allocate resources (such as services, facilities, and personnel) to positively impact health service quality and, ultimately, the health status of area residents.

While working toward coordinating all these organizations, businesses, people, and services, Consortium members applied for and received, in 2005, a Healthy Communities Access Program one-year grant award for $980,000. This grant helped fund start up costs for Bullhook Clinic to help fulfill a primary Consortium goal to address community healthcare needs.

Team members meet monthly at our consortium meetings held on the third Friday of the month from 3-5pm. Everyone in the community is welcome to attend. Goals and objectives have been set and can be viewed in the minutes from the January 19 meeting.  Throughout the year we will ask team members to portray the most essential parts of the projects through illustrations without using words. The illustrations will be a type of communication that will be used as a “museum walk” for all the community to observe.

Consortium Sub-Committees include:

  • Early Childhood Investment Team
  • Kids Management Authority (Children’s Mental Health)
  • Local Advisory Council (Adult Mental Health)
  • Environmental Health
  • Primary Care
  • Dental, Vision, and Hearing
